Fruit crisp is near and dear to my heart. There’s something about the combination of sweet, gooey, soft, warm fruit and a crumbly crunchy topping that just brings me back to my childhood. My grandmother’s signature dish was apple crisp, and no matter what I try, I’ll never be able to duplicate it. And you know what, I’m okay with that. I have my own fruit crisp game.
Rather than try to beat grandma at a game that she’ll always win, I thought I would retire our traditional apple filling and throw my own spin on the classic fruit crisp. Vegan dessert? Check. Healthy dessert? Check. My favourite tropical fruits? Check. Easy as pie (ok, more like crisp)? Double check.
Fruit Crisp for the Win!
My secret to my fruit crisp is starting with Dorset Cereals Muesli, which saves me from buying a bunch of individual ingredients like nuts, seeds and dried fruit for my ultimate crisp topping. Right now, I’m totally crushing on Dorset’s Fruit, Nuts & Seeds Muesli.
It has raisins, dates, crunchy banana bits, seeds, nuts and multi-grain oats without any added sugar. It makes a great breakfast with yogurt or milk, but also a perfect guilt-free topping for my fruit crisp thanks to the balance of protein and fibre.
Also, since Dorset Cereals are perfect for vegans, this recipe is deliciously vegan-friendly, but if you don’t follow a plant-based diet, feel free to use butter in place of coconut oil in your fruit crisp.
Either way, it’s an amazing lightened up spring or summer dessert that is an absolute sinch to pull off so it’s become a go-to for entertaining on the fly.
I like serving my healthy tropical fruit crisp with a little dollop of plain Greek yogurt, but feel free to splurge and add a scoop of ice cream and some coconut shavings. Why not!

Healthy Vegan Fruit Crisp with Tropical Fruit
- 2 cups pineapple finely diced
- 4 cups banana diced
- 2 cups mango finely diced
- 4 tsp coconut oil
- 4 tsp coconut sugar
- 4 tsp whole wheat flour
- Pinch each of cinnamon nutmeg, salt and lime zest
- 1 1/2 cups Dorset Fruit, Nuts & Seeds Muesli
- 3 tbsp coconut sugar
- 6 tbsp coconut oil melted
- 6 tbsp whole wheat flour
- 6 tbsp shredded unsweetened coconut
- 1 tsp lime zest
- Pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg pinch of each
- Preheat your oven to 375 F.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the pineapple, banana, mango, coconut oil, coconut sugar, flour and a pinch each of cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and lime zest. If doing individual portions, divide between 8 1-cup oven-safe ramekins or transfer to one oven safe pie plate or 8x8” square baking pan.
- In another bowl, mix together the Dorset Fruit, Nuts & Seeds Muesli, coconut sugar, coconut oil, flour, coconut, lime zest, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Transfer the fruit filling to 8 ramekins or the baking pan and top with the Dorset Muesli mixture. If using ramekins, place the ramekins on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes for the mini size, or 20-25 minutes for the large size.
